The light locomotive of the Mda series was produced in 1970-1975 by the company Ganz–MÁVAG in the number of 42 units, for the MAV railways. Powered by an 880kW engine with a diesel-hydraulic transmission. It was designed and manufactured as a complete motor unit of 4-6 car passenger push-pull sets with a driver-cab car. The intention was to replace surviving steam traffic and pre-war motor cars on the MAV tracks. Since 2011, the units have been decommissioned, the remaining Mda locomotives have since been exceptionally used for light freight transport.
