The 476.1/477.0 series steam tender locomotives manufactured by ČKD Praha were designed for heavy suburban transport in the vicinity of large cities. They were also used to pull express and fast trains. These modern steam locomotives excelled in quick starts. They were derived from the pre-war prototype locomotive 475.0, later reconstructed into the 477 series with better weight axel distribution.
